Samsung has been expanding several versions of its flagship in recent years. In addition to a plain flat variant, we also got a model with a curved screen. Last year we saw a Galaxy S7 Edge next to the Galaxy S7 , with the screen going through the edges. This year Samsung makes it easy: the screen is bent with each variant and continues in the edge.

The screen is really the Galaxy S8's attention trigger. It fills almost the entire front and continues through the sides. Only a small black bar can be found at the top and bottom. The Galaxy S8 display is one of the largest screens for an Android smartphone, while the device itself is barely bigger than the Galaxy S7. Perfect to operate with one hand.

The screen produces a clear image. The screen resolution is 2960 at 1440 pixels, which provides a pixel density of 570 ppi. That's a lot sharper than Samsung's biggest competitor, the iPhone 7 . Individual pixels are impossible to see with the naked eye.

Moreover, that screen is longer than what you usually see on a smartphone. The aspect ratio of this is therefore not 16 by 9, but 18.5 by 9. This is because Samsung has replaced the physical buttons under the screen with menu buttons on the screen.

Focus on safety

The home button has long been a familiar phenomenon on Samsung's Galaxy S series. For the Galaxy S8, Samsung has removed this button so that there is more room for the screen. The fingerprint scanner remains an important feature of the Galaxy S8, but this time it's at the back, next to the camera.

The Galaxy S8 also has an iris scanner on board. This scanner can read your iris using infrared light to determine if you are the one who tries to lock the device. So your data is not only protected with your fingerprint, but also with your eyes.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 shines out of competition with head and shoulders. The front-end display, the outstanding camera and smooth hardware form an extremely strong combination. Samsung has further improved the recipe of last year, in a way that all other smartphones get outdated and feel obsolete.

Nevertheless, Samsung makes a few small stitches. The fingerprint scanner does not work well, Bixby is too limited to be relevant and the speaker is moderate. These are minor flaws that do not or hardly dodge the whole, but with a device, if this approaches further the perfection, it is all the more. Cheap is the Galaxy S8 absolutely not, but a better, prettier and more complete flagship is not available at the moment.
